Two pianists, childhood friends in Barcelona (Dòria and Rossell), meet in Paris in the 1930s as young men, and become a part of the avant-garde musical scene of the time. Both of them fall in love with the same woman, they are very talented. Hearing news of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Rossell decides to return to Spain and fight for the Republican cause, while Dòria remains in Paris saying that music is the only cause he wants to support. Forty years later, they meet again in a sordid cabaret in Barcelona. Rossell is the pianist accompanying the transvestite show. Dòria arrives surrounded by admirers.
