Film and Literature: Evaluating the potential of an adaptation

Last October 13, and within the activities of the Taboo'ks in the Sitges festival, we organized the round table Film and Literature: Evaluating the potential of an adaptation. Four agents from the audiovisual and literary sectors discussed the possibilities of adapting books to screens.

We were accompanied by the screenwriter Coral Cruz who has worked writing the scripts for films adapted from novels such as Uncertain Glory by Agustí Villaronga, Vida Privada by Sílvia Munt, or Life Without Sara Amat by Laura Jou. The executive producer Manuel Monzón, who is currently the executive producer of A Contracorriente Films, where he has worked as a producer on films such as Isabel Coixet's The bookshop or Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat's The Distinguished Citizen. Freelance writer and script consultant Albert Val. For more than ten years, he worked in the development department of Filmax, in series such as Red Bracelets or the films of the [REC] saga. In 2021 El maestro que prometió el mar will shot, an adaptation of the book by Francesc Escribano of which he is a screenwriter. The literary agent Anna Soler-Pont who in 1992 founded the Pontas literary agency, which also evolved to create Pontas Films. She has worked on films for adaptations of books such as Traces of sandalwood, Cold Skin, or The Baztán trilogy. Mónica Garcia Massagué, general director of the Sitges Foundation - International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia.
