Carme, a Barcelonese gynaecologist who has just separated from her husband, comes face to face with Moroccan culture when the husband of her patient Shahida refuses to recognise his new-born daughter. Through Amir, the attractive brother of the rejected wife, Carme discovers the customs, sensitivity and viewpoints of the Morrocan people, as her involvement in the problem deepens and she takes Shahida and the baby girl into her home. From this time on, Carme undertakes to help Shahida in the process of adaptation to western society and will act as mediator so she can return to her husband. At the same time, she will have to assimilate the unforeseen attraction she feels for Amir, who offers her a sensitivity, understanding and emotional wealth she has never found in her previous relationships.
