Maria Ripoll directed this film starring Verónica Echegui, Silma López, Ángela Molina, Daniel Grao, and Adam Jezierski, filmed in Barcelona. Yo no soy esa tells the story of Susana (Verónica Echegui), who wakes up after 20 years in a coma. She is now a teenager in a woman's body in the 21st century in 2022. Susana will have to get used to a world where nothing is familiar and where she has to learn to live.

The film begins in the 1990s with two young teenage girls, Bárbara (Rocky) and Susana (Mara Reina), filming a video under the Pont del Petroli in Badalona. At night, they go out to a club. It's a surfboard rental shop in Badalona. There, she meets Pepo, who is J. Later, they meet during the day at the beach, and Susana and Raúl go to the beach together. They are at Tres Chimeneas beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Afterward, Susana and her mother, Ángela (Olivia Molina), are in their taxi; her mother is a taxi driver. The car approaches Avenida Miramar, goes around the roundabout, and returns along the same avenue.
Later, Susana and Bárbara share headphones and listen to music from a Walkman while waiting for a bus and watching people go by. They're at the bus stop at Paseo Sant Antoni, 43. In the next scene, Bárbara plays basketball on a court while Susana films her. They're in the playground of the Sants Institute (Dolors Batlle i Sunyer, 9). Later, we see them inside the institute on some stairs with Pepo. Susana arrives home, and her mother scolds her for failing a grade. Later, we see Susana trying to escape from the house and falling out of a window.
We see Angela, Susana, and Bárbara's mother in the hospital. In several scenes, we see how time passes. When the mother is older, the actress is Ángela Molina. She talks with Dr. Hermida (Anna Alarcón), Susana's doctor. The hospital is the Tecnocampus in Mataró. Susana wakes up and discovers that many years have passed. After waking up, Susana goes to a rehabilitation center. There, we see her in a swimming pool, for example. They are at the Betània Patmos School pool (Montevideo, 13).
Meanwhile, the adult Bárbara (Silma López) arrives at work. This scene is at the entrance to the Caixaforum (Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia Avenue, 6-8). We see her inside the museum where she works. The interior is at the Tecnocampus Foundation in Maresme. It's not Barcelona. Later, we see her in her apartment. It's at 48 Lluís Sagnier Street in Barcelona.
Susana arrives at the rehabilitation center's gym. There she meets Raúl (Adam Jezierski). It's the Betània Patmos School again. Later, Dr. Hermida calls Bárbara while she's working. Susana is sitting on a bench on a basketball court inside the rehabilitation center; she's also at the Betània Patmos School. Her friend Bárbara visits her there when her mother, Ángela, arrives. Angela talks to Dr. Hermina, and they walk around the building. Susana is going to live with Barbara.
Susana goes to rehab the following day, but when she arrives, she hides and leaves. At the tram stop on Wellington Street, 1, we see Susana looking at the map. Later, we see her on the tram. Once outside, we see her looking at the buildings surrounding the Jardines de Ca l'Aranyó (142, Ciutat de Granada Street) and the people gathered there. She runs into Raúl, the rehab classmate she met at the gym. They start walking around the area together. They end up walking through the Encants market.
Afterward, they sit on the steps of the DHUB at Badajoz Street, 175. There, Raúl and Susana watch videos on his phone. Later, they take the tram back. Susana is home when Barbara returns. Later, Bárbara and Susana go out. They visit a perfume shop in a shopping center (Diagonal Avenue, 208). They go up some escalators. Later, they walk quickly along Diagonal Avenue.
We see a view of the city from the gymnasium at the Betània Patmos School. There, Susana talks to Raúl. Dr. Hermida invites Susana and Bárbara to a bar. It's the Abaixadors 10 Teatre (C/Abaixadors, 10).
In the next scene, we see a man getting into an elevator. Pepo (Daniel Grao) arrives at an office where he speaks with his partner. This establishment is in Hospitalet. Pepo and Susana meet again after years of not seeing each other. They catch up on each other's lives at the IKOYA Izakaya Restaurant (Francesc Cambó Avenue, 23). Later, Pepo and Susana sit on the beach in Sant Adrià de Besòs, with the three chimneys in the background.
The next day, Susana meets Raúl and other colleagues, Fernando (Oriol Cervera) and Amaya (Susana Wang). They sit at a table on a terrace and have a coffee. They are in the gardens of the Parc de la Carretera Antigua Horta Cerdanyola between Ausiàs March and Ali Bei streets. Afterward, Raúl and Susana sit on a bench at the entrance to the gardens. They text Pepo on their cell phones.
Meanwhile, he's making a recording and sees the messages. Susana dances in the park while Raúl orders at the bar. They're back in the gardens of the Parc de la Carretera Antigua Horta Cerdanyola.
Susana needs a job. Therefore, she goes to a job guidance center. This scene is at the Jaume I School in Sants. Later, we see her saying goodbye to her coworkers. She delivers food. She's at the Poble Nou Campus in Bolivia Street, near number 76. Next, we see her riding her bike through the Jardines de Ca l'Aranyó at 142 Ciutat de Granada Street. Before that, Susana visits her mother at the center where she is. In reality, it's the Masnou Nautical Club.
Later, we see Susana and Raúl walking down the street. They sit in a park; they're at the Tecnocampus in Mataró. Pepo texts Susana to meet up. We see him at a party at his house, the same venue in Hospitalet as his office.
Susana and Bárbara talk in Bárbara's room and then go to a nightclub (Razzmatazz Sala 2 on Pamplona Street, 88). There, she runs into Pepo. They go to his house. Later that night, Susana is at a bar and talks to the bartender. Raúl then comes to find her, and they sit by the door. They start dancing in the street. It's Olímpic Bar at a gas station 20 minutes from Barcelona.
The next day, Susana rides the tram back home. Later, we see her sitting on a swing in the Jardines de Ca l'Aranyo. She's sad. We also see her walking along Diagonal Avenue. We see the tram passing in the background. She rides standing up and goes downtown to where her mother is.
Later, we see Susana again on a bike, delivering food. She passes under the Zona Franca bridge on A Street. She then returns to her mother, and we see them sitting on a terrace overlooking the beach—the same Club Naútic del Masnou. Susana goes to the Petroli bridge to unearth the box they buried.
In the end, Susana goes to see Bárbara at the museum where she works. When they leave, they climb the stairs of the CaixaForum. Afterward, they sit and talk on Barcelona's seafront and then play basketball in the la Rosa de los Vientos Square, where the sculpture "Les 4 barras" can be seen. The film ends with an aerial view of the city from this location.
