Support for female filmmakers of the fantastic

The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia has presented its preview of this year's program, which you can check here. Among the novelties for this year's edition, they have also announced their WomanInFan program, which was born with the desire to support women filmmakers within the world of the fantastic film genre.

The presence of female creators in the fantastic film industry is becoming more and more noticeable, but it is still a minority. Because of that, WomanInFan wants to help to change that with three lines of action. First, with an online memorabilia fund to recover the historical memory of women who have contributed to the history of fantastic film. Second, with three scholarships, with the support of Vertix, for three filmmakers without a background in the genre but with an outstanding initial career. And last by promoting visibility with the production of an annual short film written and directed by women within an open call.

In the Sitges 2021 program, there will also be novelties directed by women filmmakers such as Censor of the British Prano Bailey-Bond; The Blazing World, by newcomer Carlson Young; the Canadian Amelia Moses with her film Bloodthirsty or the documentary Alien on Stage, by Lucy Harvey and Danielle Kummer.
