The cinematic experience of the visually impaired audience

The Gaudí Cycle of the Acadèmia del Cinema Català is organizing Sentir el Cinema, a pioneering initiative open to the public that opens the debate on the quality of the cinematic experience of people with visual disabilities. The activity consists of a special screening of the film Robot Dreams and a round table.

The screening of Robot Dreams by Pablo Berger will be on Saturday, October 19, at 6 pm at the Espai Texas. It's a beautiful story of friendship without dialogue, accompanied by a live audio description and with dramatic intention. Afterward, the public will be able to talk and share their experience with Aleix Castany, a person with low vision who is the author and interpreter of the live audio description of the film.

The round table will take place on Tuesday, October 22, at 6 pm at the SGAE Catalonia headquarters and will invite reflection on the quality of the audiovisual experience for people with visual disabilities. Participants:

  • Gonzalo Iturregui-Gallardo, PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies and lecturer at the Department of Translation and Interpretation at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
  • Anna Morancho, president of the Association Ddsdiscapacitat Visual Catalunya: B1+B2+B3
  • Adriana Pérez, co-director of Inclús, Barcelona International Film and Disability Festival
  • Antonio Vázquez is the main editor of the UNE standard for audio description and advisor on audio description for ONCE and other institutions, as well as producers and companies in the audiovisual world

Clàudia Torner, coordinator of Apropa Cultura will moderate. The activity will also be broadcast live on the Gaudí Cycle's YouTube channel.
