The first documentary film festival dedicated to contemporary art

This year is the first edition of the Dart, a documentary film festival dedicated to the world of contemporary art. From November 30 to December 3, the Cinemas Girona of Barcelona will program 10 films dedicated to the different aspects of art from photography, painting, performance or activism.

This first edition will highlight creative women with four documentaries: Leonora Carrington, The Lost Surrealist about the British surrealist painter, Tania Libre about the Cuban performer Tania Bruguera, Eva Hesse about the pioneer of the post-minimalist movement and Citizen Jane, The Battle for the City about the Canadian scientist and activist Jane Butzner Jacobs.

Among the selected films you can also see Julian Schnabel, A Private Portrait about the famous painter and film director or Jaar, El Lamento de las Imágenes, which is the first film dedicated to the Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar and has the soundtrack of his son Nicolas Jaar, one of the great names in electronic music. In addition, we can see Maurizio Cattelan, Be Right Back, a biopic about a controversial Italian artist or the documentary Harald Szeemann, Appunti sulla Vita di un Sognatore about the Swiss curator and historian. The photography will be represented with two documentaries: Mapplethorpe, Look at the Pictures and Zimbelism on George Zimbel.
