From September 24th to 26th, Barcelona will host Cineposium, the annual congress of film commissioners. The focus topic of debate is the relationship between cinema and tourism

From the 24th to the 26th of September, 2015, Barcelona will host of the 39th edition of Cineposium, the annual international congress of film commissioners. The event will be held at Disseny Hub Barcelona (at Plaça de les Glòries, 37), bringing together professionals from around the world with ties to both cinema and tourism.

For this edition, Cineposium will analyze and reflection upon cinema and tourism, developing synergies and strategies between film commissioners, the audiovisual industry and the tourist sector, so as to find mutual inspiration and generate new, high quality content.

Ireland and the series Game of Thrones, the Disney method and the television series Cites —these are just a few of the topics featured in this year’s edition, which will focus on the repercussion of film on the attraction of given places for visitors, as well as local economic impact. These questions are highly pertinent in the present, as recent studies have shown that one in five tourists is motivated by a film or television program he or she has seen.

Speakers such as Mara Mikialian from HBO (Game of Thrones) and Mary Ann Hughes, VP Production at The Walt Disney Company, amongst others, will analyze and present the most recent success stories when it comes to tourism inspired by the audiovisual sector, whether as an unexpected, spontaneous consequence of a film location, or the result of intentional marketing strategies.

Cineposium is the annual congress organized by AFCI, The Association of Film Commissioners International, with headquarters in Los Angeles  (USA). For this year’s edition, Cineposium is pleased to collaborate with the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Hall), through the Barcelona Film Commission and Barcelona Turisme.
