The church of Sant Esteve de Vinyoles d'Orís is located in the upper part of Vinyoles and was located inside the old town of Castell d'Orís. He held parish office until, before 1960, the cult was moved to a new church with another devotion.

The year 1106 seems to be the probable date of the consecration of the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve. The original temple was replaced by a more solid one that is still preserved in its main structure. Its dome was elongated and it is probable that the old bell tower was erected on it, the cause of which is unknown. From the year 1300 onwards, there are references to the existence of an important brotherhood of Sant Jaume in the church of Sant Esteve.

Vinyoles was the one who opened the priesthood of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer, as a result of his priestly ordination. He was its vicar and regent from 1871 to 1873. In this small parish he left the good memory of his priestly virtues and also dedicated himself to the elaboration of his great poem L'Atlàntida. But also in Vinyoles he cultivated mystical poetry, which seemed more appropriate to the priestly vocation, The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ and much of his Idylls and mystical songs. Another Verdaguerian memory in Vinyoles is the Laurel that he planted in the rectory. Since its restoration in 1975 (by the noble house of Conanglell), the spring festivities have never been missed. The Verdaguer temple has returned to worship with all kinds of celebrations: many choirs from the Plana de Vic have resounded in their vaults songs with the lyrics of Mossèn Cinto.
