The river park has been extended during the recent years in order to double its area, from the original 6 kilometers to 12 kilometers nowadays. With that, Santa Coloma enjoys a 70-hectare green space for public use. The Recovery Project of Besòs river final stretch as it flows through Santa Coloma has met its three initial aims: first, recovering a degraded area for public use; second, improving the quality of the river water through water purification and regeneration works, and creating wetland areas in both riverbanks; and finally ensuring the safety of the people who use the recreation ground, who are more than 2 million during the last year.
