The convent was founded during the lifetime of Santa d'Asís, one of the first from the order to settle in Catalonia and it is the oldest in Tortosa.

From its original construction, two wings of the cloister have been preserved, a prototype of the Provencal gothic style and formed by trilobate arches supported by attached columns, with a double leaf base and plain capitols It was apparently refurbished in the 15th and 16th centuries. The refurbishment in 1991 left the 5th arch and column of the south wing exposed and in the refurbishment that took place in 1997 and 1998, most of the wood was replaced.
