The forum was the religious and social hub of Roman-era cities. It was comprised of a plaza surrounded by public buildings, such as temples, the basilica, the curia and shops, and decorated with sculptures of the key figures of both the city’s and Roman history. Tarragona's forum was built in approximately 30 B.C., and today only a portion of the basilica remains, a building with three naves that once held the court of justice and was sometimes used for meetings of the city council. From the footbridge, visitors can still see a small section of the urban expanse of Tarragona, including several streets and houses.
