The urban structure of the historic center is organized urbanistically to adapt the constructions on the different slopes and terraces that characterize this area of the city. In the 10th century the Pla d'Almatà was saturated and the city was forced to grow towards the lap of the castle. Noble houses are built in this area of the Andalusian city, which, with the conquest, will be occupied by the new ones settlers and over time will make up the current historic center.

The nerve centers of the historic center are Carrer d’Avall, Major, Sant Jaume, Pintor Borràs, Torrent, Plaça Sant Salvador and Plaça del Pou. Some of these spaces they have a long history as commercial spaces. In fact, the existing porches in
these streets and squares show their past as spaces of exchange commercial and craft workshops.
