Once conquered Turtuxa in 1148, king Ramon Berenguer IV donated to the Jewish community the shipyards, giving birth to the Old Jewish Quarter, first district inhabited exclusively by Jews. In the 13th century, the New Jewish Quarter was founded, of which there are some remains: a section of the 14th century walls that includes the Celio Tower, and the Jewish Gateway, which gives acces to the Jewish cementery.
