The work was designed by Pau Monguió in 1905 and built between 1906 and 1908.

Monguió opted for a set of pavilions with a wooden and iron framework on the roofs and structures symmetrically inside a closed site with a rectangular floor plan but at the same time combined the open and closed areas and added a specific space for each of the functions that would carried out in the building.

It houses the Museum of Tortosa, Historical and Archaeological of the Terres de l'Ebre and The Antoni Garcia temporary exhibitions gallery.
