An adaptation of the tale by Angel Guimera, with music by Enric Morera, La Santa Espina tells the story of Gueridó, a shepherd who is in love with Maria, the heiress to a wealthy home. After being expelled by the girl's father, a spell is cast on Gueridó, turning him into the false king of a country from the East. Twists of fate will bring him together again with his beloved Maria, who will recognize him thanks to the ''Santa Espina'' locket he had taken from her in the past as a memento.
