Anna Maria Martínez Sagi took advantage of the exceptional historical moment of the Second Republic to challenge conventions and fight for her own independence and, by extension, that of all women. She was a Spanish poet, trade unionist, journalist, feminist and athlete, champion of Spain in javelin throwing, record holder and pioneer of Spanish women's sport. She was also the first female manager of the Barcelona Football Club.
