Seemingly unconnected stories are interwoven on the outskirts of Barcelona: A farmer on the verge of ruin and a Filipino woman who has just arrived; an old lady who faces the end of her days and a prostitute in need of more clients; a Moldavian youth who is preparing for a wrestling championship and a plague that is devastating the fields and harvests. The protagonists of the film (non-actors who actually play themselves) see their destinies become entwined as the summer goes on. More than four years of work with the people in this area have enabled Ballús to construct this moving portrait of the life that simmers on the outskirts of the big city, amid fields, motorways and industrial zones.
