In 1982 the Hungarian, Aro Tolbukhin, was arrested for burning seven people alive in the infirmary at the Mission of the Divine Redeemer in Guatemala. After he was taken into custody he confessed to the murder of five women who were found burned to death and to declared himself guilty of a further seventeen murders committed during his time in the merchant navy. But during the investigation a number of inconsistencies came to light which put in doubt his responsibility for the crimes he insisted on attributing to himself.
