The collegiate church of Santa Maria, also known as Santa Maria de l'Alba and popularly known as La Seu, is the most representative monument in the city of Manresa, and one of the capital buildings of Catalan Gothic art. The church is located on the upper plain of the Puigcardener, dominating the city, in the place of a previous one, mentioned in the tenth century, and replaced by the 12th century by a Romanesque temple.

Typology/Elements

The church, of Catalan Gothic style, is of a nave with polygonal apse, with lateral chapels and girola, covered with vault of vault on 18 pilasters of section eight. The ship, of exceptional height in Catalonia, is abutted on the outside by 18 bolts and illuminated by about thirty large windows with historiated polychrome windows. These two elements bring you closer to the European gothic typology. The dimensions of the temple are 68 meters long, 33 meters wide and about 30 meters high. The width of the ship (18.5m) makes it one of the largest gothic buildings in Europe after the Girona headquarters. The tower bell, with a square floor plan, has a height of 50.5m.
