The ancient "Castrum de Pera Taliata", the castle of Peratallada, is first documented in 1065. It is located in the centre of the medieval town of Peratallada, which takes its name from a moat dug into the living rock.
The castle reached its greatest splendour in the 13th and 14th centuries. Later, it was rebuilt and enlarged to become a sumptuous palace, in successive stages of construction that can be seen when visiting its rooms.
