The Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona is a public scientific institution at the service of the community.

In 2000, the Museu de Geologia and the Museu de Zoologia were combined to form today’s Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona. These two museums originated in the Museu Martorlell, which was founded in 1878 thanks to the legacy of Francesc Martorell i Peña, and was the first public museum in Barcelona.

All the Museum’s contents were initially located in the Martorell building, but in 1924 part of the collections was transferred to the Castell dels tres Dragons, where the city’s Museu de Zoologia was housed until the year 2000.

Museum spaces for hire are:

Hall

The Hall is the neuralgic centre of the Museum, in which people access for a staircase presided over by the skeleton of the whale, in attitude that simulates its immersion in the water. The whale measures more than 20 meters and weighs a ton.

The Hall distributes the access for the majority of the facilities and services and is, at the same time, a space of leisure. It gives access to the shop, the media centre, the classrooms, the auditorium and the temporary exhibition. Also in the hall, we will find the sample “Institutions and Natural History Museums in Catalonia”, which sets forth a selection of pieces of each one of these institutions in 18 linear meters of showcase.

This space is so versatile that can be used for presentations, coffee breaks, cocktails, etc.
