Modernist building from the early 20th century (1906/1914) that was built with the aim of being a casino during the development campaign of the first section of the Passeig (main promenade). Currently the complex is used as a municipal library.

Typology / Elements

The Casino is a large building, with the façade aligned on the Passeig, with a rectangular and symmetrical plan, consisting of a semi-basement, mezzanine and principal. The complex is formed by three bodies, the most prominent central one and the lateral ones perpendicular to it, articulated by two stairs located on both sides of the central body, which is advanced forming a semicircular tribune. The facades are of symmetrical composition, with a great profusion of decorative elements of historicist, classicist and floral type. The main and rear façades were surrounded by gardens.

The mezzanine is a modification that fits little with the rest of the building, made in 1917 by the architect Josep Signed in order to install a bar. In 1919 the terrace that overlooks the Passeig was inaugurated. In the main room of the south wing, the only one that was finished according to the project, you can appreciate the rich decoration of eclectic and modernist type.
