The Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) is an organism of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Catalonia whose aim is to stimulate the artistic creativity and the production, distribution and diffusion of cultural contents through the development of the cultural companies, and also to promote the cultural consumption and the expansion of markets for the Catalan culture.
Its main guidelines are the concession of financial support and subsidies for the Catalan companies for the production, promotion, distribution, diffusion and rehabilitation and improvement of equipments; the provision of services for managerial development; the collaboration with other entities and organisms to promote the diffusion and the consumption of cultural products and, finally, the support to the international promotion of professional projects through the participation in fairs and international events and by assisting companies in accessing international markets.
In the audio-visual sector, the ICEC is also responsible for the analysis of the results of cinematographic exhibition and the qualification of the audio-visual works in Catalonia. From 2002, the ICEC is responsible for the management of the Film Archive of Catalonia, with objective of preserving Catalan film heritage.
