The history of the Catalan Association of Film Criticism and Writing dates back to 1988, when a large group of film critics launched an association that had never been seen before. With José Luis Guarner at the helm as first president, the ACCEC joined the FIPRESCI (International Federation of the Cinematographic Press) in 1989, at that time as the only Spanish delegation. Since then, the ACCEC, in which not only Catalan critics and writers have joined, but also numerous colleagues from the rest of Spain, has had various venues of action, from international presence - for example through participation in numerous juries of the festival criticism or the dissemination of Catalan cinema among foreign critics - to collaboration with various festivals and national institutions, in addition to promoting numerous activities in the field of cinematographic culture (text editions, conferences, round tables, awards, courses and training workshops, etc.) and in the activity around cinema in general.
