Nova Icària Park is one of the green spaces built in 1992 around the Barcelona Olympic Games. Large wooden bridges connect Vila Olímpica, once the Olympic Village, to the beaches, while gentle grass slopes with irises, elderberries and Chinese weeping willows go down to a lake whose outline is modelled after the mythical island of Icaria.

Parc de la Nova Icària has a truly Olympian entrance: Plaça dels Campions. This is a rectangular, slightly raised square which is reached via a ramp. It was paved with plaques dedicated to the 1992 Olympic champions and the outstanding sports figures of all time, but the plaques had to be removed and stored in a safe place after they began to “disappear”.
