A film about two women pioneers of gay marriage

Elisa y Marcela tells the story of these women who in 1901 became the first homosexual couple to marry in Spain. Two teachers who met at a school where they worked, became friends and then fell in love. Both lived their relationship in secret. Suspicions and social pressure caused them to make the decision to live together as a marriage, but to do so they would have to prepare a plan that deceived everyone. Filming will be made between Galicia and Catalonia and has also passed through Barcelona. A project that Isabel Coixet has been preparing for 10 years. The director has written the script together with Narciso de Gabriel, professor of Theory and History of Education and current dean of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of A Coruña, who wrote in 2008 the book Elisa y Marcela: más allá de los hombres.

The two protagonists are Natalia de Molina and Greta Fernández, who are accompanied by Tamar Novas, Sara Casasnovas, Maria Pujalte, Francesc Oreja, Manolo Solo and Lluís Homar. The film is produced by Rodar y Rodar, Zenit TV, Lanube Films and TV3 in association with Film Factory. It will be released simultaneously in the 190 countries where Netflix operates. The movie is shot between Catalonia and Galicia in black and white.
