No other neighbourhood in Barcelona better encapsulates traditional charm and vibrant modernity than Gràcia. Formerly a separate village, it now forms the core of one of the districts located in the Barcelona city centre where we found streets, squares and places with great personality. A separate village from the city until 1897, it now forms the core of the Barcelona’s 6th district, which also includes other neighbourhoods such as Vallcarca, Penitents and La Salut.

Nowadays, the streets and squares of Gràcia are typical from the ones of a little village but placed in the middle of a big city. The food markets, such as the Mercat de l’Abaceria and the Mercat de la Llibertat, two iron and brick structures designed to hold indoor stalls for the selling of all kinds of food; the unusual bars and restaurants; the Casa Vicens, the first major work of Antoni Gaudí noted for its Moorish and Oriental style; and the Casa Fuster, one of the most sumptuous examples of modernism in Barcelona; or the little shops, they are all an example of the spirit of the neighbourhood.

Next to Gràcia, we find the centre of the neighbourhood La Salud that holds the second of Gaudí’s most outstanding masterpieces: Park Güell, a park full of fantasy and colour that integrates architecture into the surrounding natural setting; and also the Creueta del Coll Park renowned for its large public bathing pool  wich also hides a large concrete sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.
